Rethinking cosmetics in a new way

MakeSenz is, above all, a story of awakening. It’s the story of Sophie, its founder, who, after more than ten years in the cosmetics industry, began to take a fresh look at the products she encountered in the industry. Behind the enticing promises, she discovered long, complex formulas that were difficult to decipher and made up of ingredients that were not particularly kind to the skin or the environment. Little by little, a disconnect began to form between what she was doing and what she believed in.

In the early 2010s, while organic food and local supply chains were gaining ground, the cosmetics industry lagged behind. People began to question the status quo, but initiatives were rare. Sophie decided to take action on her own scale and embark on this adventure. She trained in aromatherapy and began creating her own skincare products, prioritizing simpler, more natural formulas.

In 2011, she developed her first jojoba moisturizer, formulated with just a few natural, certified organic ingredients. Very quickly, it became clear: skin doesn’t need more, but better. This conviction became the foundation of MakeSenz and translates into a simple philosophy: Less is more “formulate with few ingredients, choose with care, use sparingly.”

In line with this philosophy, Sophie has also chosen to break away from the traditional norms of the cosmetics industry—notably by foregoing paid advertising—in order to prioritize the quality of raw materials and offer fair pricing. In doing so, she has built a cohesive venture where every step matters, from ingredient selection to production and direct sales. This commitment continues today through concrete choices, such as the use of glass packaging and the implementation of an in-store refill system, which extends the life of the bottles and reduces waste.

MakeSenz comes to life in Brussels, in a space where everything comes together: creation, manufacturing, consultation, and interaction with customers. Early feedback is quickly encouraging. The products find their place, workshops expand, and a genuine, close relationship develops with customers. They are no longer just users but become active participants, eager to understand, learn, and consume differently.

Over the years, the adventure grows without losing its essence. The team expanded, ties with producers strengthened, and the project became part of a broader movement by launching its online store, a second boutique in Louvain-la-Neuve, and a network of retailers, primarily in Belgium.

Today, MakeSenz is a small, family-run business driven by a dedicated team and a loyal customer base. But beyond its products, it is a vision that continues to take shape—one of cosmetics that are simpler, more transparent, and more responsible. Cosmetics that encourage us to consume less but better, and to reconnect with what truly matters. Making a difference for ourselves, for others, and for the planet.
